Talk:Refinement System

From iRO Wiki

Contradiction concerning using enriched ore to refine from +9 to +10

Enriched Hammer cannot be used to upgrade from +9 to +10 - this is to protect the player, because the success rate when upgrading from +9 to +10 is the same for normal and enriched ores. To upgrade from +9->10, use HD ore and Mighty Hammer.

If this is true, then why do the stated success rates for refining from +9 to +10 using normal ore and enriched ore differ? Richard (talk) 15:30, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

You can use Enriched ores on +9 gears to attempt making them +10 using the normal enriched NPC, but with the chance of breaking on refinement. It's only the Enriched Hammer event NPC they won't allow you to refine to +10 with. Toxn (talk) 15:56, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Success chances

As far as I know, official rates for upgrading success have never been published. (for either regular or enriched elu/ori). Same comment holds for Weaponry Research vs upgrading. The enriched Ori/Elu rates don't even conform to what is commonly believed to be their rates. (ie: enriched rate = 1-(1-regular rate)^2 )

I hate to nitpick, but I'd like to see at least some source for this section.

F2P vs P2P

So the article mentions now that many F2P servers disable the safe limits. Since iWiki is for iRO, I think they need to be reworded to indicate that the Valk server disables them; the fact that other F2Ps disable them should be added as a sidenote. I'm not doing this myself becuase I don't know if this is true/applicable. Usually the word "many" is one to avoid in encyclopedic articles. --Steax 09:04, 1 October 2008 (MDT)

Clearly these rates aren't anything that I would call good, so I decided to do specific testing. I bought 20 knives (level 1 weapon) and a bunch of phracon and started upgrading. My results are as follows:

+0 to +1: 16/20 (80%)
+1 to +2: 15/16 (94%)
+2 to +3: 12/15 (80%)
+3 to +4: 10/12 (83%)
+4 to +5: 7/10 (70%)
+5 to +6: 5/7 (71%)
+6 to +7: 1/5 (20%)
