Overview
Though the force of his punches are feared far and wide, the Monk realizes that he has neglected something very important—his spirit remains unsatisfied. Thus his body and spirit are not yet in harmony. Through rigorous training and intense dedication, the Monk will finally tap into the strength of his entire being and become a Champion!
A Champion is the Transcendent variant of Monk. Known for the one-hit skill, Guillotine Fist. Champions are even deadlier in close range combat due to their boosted SP count and STR. Champions get mostly new combo-skills as their transcendental skills. Combo skills are mostly used for PvM but still can wreck havoc in PvP if executed properly.
The most loved boost is probably the new skill Zen and the increase in HP and SP since Guillotine Fist relies on the STR and SP count of the caster. With 69 skill points to allocate, Champions can now have the most commonly used (PvP wise) skills maxed. Although the new skills are disappointing for those who are PvP oriented, the 69 skill points to allocate makes up for it and makes them able to get all offensive spirit skills maxed and get Snap at the same time.
Job Change Guide
To become a Champion, you must find a book called 'the Book of Ymir' in 'Sage Castle', Juno. The book will lead you to Valhalla so you can change your job through the Champion job NPC. Also you must reach at least job level 40 as a transcendent 1st class character.
Builds
Most players cut their VIT points to have more INT specifically SP count and regen. Because of this, HP-wise and character endurance against VIT dependent status ailments brings many problems thus limiting effectiveness. Area effect skills like the Dancer class' Dazzler will surely bring trouble; not only will it stun you most of the time but the ailment's effect duration also lengthens. Players with this stat build are always in a do or die situation. Although Frenzy Lord Knights can be dealt with Root, targeted skills like HSCR will easily bring you down.
On the other hand, players that prioritize VIT will not suffer as much as the build above, but Guillotine Fist's damage is affected. This is mostly noticeable in WoE since Guillotine Fist damaged is reduced by -40%. GR and high HP characters will bring this build to the test with higher difficulty. Thanks to skills like Occult Impaction and Raging Palm Strike the class can somehow overcome this problem.
STR/DEX PvP
Common Monk and Champion bread and butter build. This is also usable in WoE, but there is an another build that can be used in WoE that is able to kill players wearing Ghostring Armor more effectively.
This stat build is the most flexible and dubbed superior over the other since this combination will further more exploit the flexibility of the Champion class. There's no need to rely on Guillotine Fist alone; because of the DEX amount, Throw Spirit Sphere and Occult Impaction are insanely fast. Disabling other Monk class characters is also possible due to the reduced cast time of Spiritual Sphere Absorption. INT is not at all required, but merely a preference.
STR/DEX/VIT WoE
A made to survive Monk and Champion build suitable for WoE under precasts and Dazzler spams. The main difference between WoE and PvP builds is more INT to kill Ghostring armor users, 60 VIT - often 10 more VIT than most PvP Champions - and 120 STR which is sometimes also 10 more than found on PvP Champions. The DEX needs to stay relatively high so Guillotine Fist will not be interrupted during WoE, but STR, VIT and INT are now more important in the WoE scene.
The VIT allows for easy Snapping through precasts during WoE.
STR/INT MVP
Made to exploit the SP and STR of a Champion, this build's primary objective is damage only. Usually combined with Lex Aeterna, MVPs with HP lower than 300-400k will kneel.
Other than MVPing, this build can also be used in WoE for defense against Ghostring Armor wearing players. Don't be suprised however if this build cannot get a single Guillotine Fist off during WoE due to the cast being interrupted or being killed before the cast time completes. PvP effectiveness is even more doubtable since DEX is not prioritized in this build.
A Phen Card compounded clip or Morpheus's Equip Set is a must for MVPing with this build.
STR/AGI Combo
Weapons: Knuckles
Mostly made for solo leveling fun, this build's aim is not the Guillotine Fist damage, but the ASPD and massive combo skill damages.
AGI and STR is prioritized for higher damage per second, INT is for SP regen and count while DEX is for Hit or even Guillotine Fist cast time if one plans to have it.
Regardless of its PvM approach, this stat combination could also compete with the other builds and thus Full Combo-Asura builds are born which fuses the most damaging combo skills and Guillotine Fist.
Full Combo-Asura builds are flashy due to their ability to chain almost all combos to Guillotine Fist.
See below for the combo possibilities.
