No matter how desperate a situation may seem, the songs of the Minstrel will inspire you to achieve a miraculous victory. Despite the name, the Minstrel is a serious factor in any battle—not just because of his ability to keep spirits high but because of his astounding archery skills as well.

Taught new songs by the gods themselves, Minstrels are now a powerful class. They are able to enchant the enemy with different music and deal large amounts of damage with Arrow Vulcan skill. Minstrel can also give half their stats to a supported character enabling the supported fighter to increase their damage. This job is known as Clown in other localizations

Job Change Guide

To become a Minstrel, you must find a book called 'the Book of Ymir' in 'Sage Castle', Juno. The book will lead you to Valhalla so you can change your job through the Minstrel Job NPC. Also you must reach at least Job Level 40 as a Transcendent 1st class character. Reaching Job Level 50 first is strongly recommended, as the player will never be able to recover the extra job levels / skill points after the job change.

1. 'Sage Castle' is located at 11 o'clock direction (yuno 88,320) in Juno. 2. 'Book of Ymir' is located inside a room behind an NPC called 'Metheus Sylphe' (yuno_in02 88,164).

3. 'Book of Ymir' (yuno_in02 94,206) will teleport you to Valhalla. 4. Find and talk to the Job NPC suited to your 2nd class.


Builds

See Maestro Builds for build strategies to work towards. See Bard Builds for leveling strategies for just the Minstrel leveling stages. Leveling a Minstrel is similar to a regular pre-trans Bard, but with a few new skill additions.

New Skills Overview:

Arrow Vulcan.png Arrow Vulcan: A single target ranged attack skill that requires a Instrument be equipped to cast. This skill is quite powerful, and if using the right Instrument, can kill most enemies in one or two shots early on. Another bonus to using this skill to level is that a shield can be equipped for damage reduction since Instruments are one handed. The downside to this skill is that it has a long skill delay between casts and that it cannot be cast while performing songs.

Marionette Control.png Marionette Control: This is useful and frequently used for any brewing type of situations like an Alchemist's Potion Creation. Very serious potion brewers will create a Minstrel or Gypsy (or even a level 150 Maestro / Wanderer!) purely as a "slave" for brewing with high LUK, DEX, and INT.

Tarot Card of Fate.png Tarot Card of Fate: This skill can be very useful in WoE. Under the effect of Magic Strings it can be very spammable. Not only can this be cast through Pneuma, it also cannot be removed by enemies. It is highly recommended to memorize the cards. This way the player can continuously use the skill until a Death Card comes up.

Sheltering Bliss.png Sheltering Bliss: This skill can be used in front of a portal in WoE to disable enemies. Worth maxing if using this character for WoE.

Hermode's Rod.png Hermode's Rod: This skill's debuff is generally not worth using and it can be a pain to use in WoE.

Longing for Freedom.png Longing for Freedom: This skill can be somewhat useful when pairing with a Bard class, but requires some practice to use properly. If moving too far from the other performer, the skill will cancel. Generally not worth investing points into.

Full Support Minstrel

  • STR: 1-20 (for holding potions, gear, and later on tears)
  • AGI: 1+
  • VIT: 60-80
  • INT: 80-99
  • DEX: 70-80
  • LUK: 1

Basically this follows the same stat and skill build of the Bard class with the addition of a few new spells. All of the new Minstrel spells are optional and can be bypassed for pre-WOE building skills like Classical Pluck.

This is a mixed bag of sorts. While it provides one of the best aoe party resist buffs in the game, it has its drawbacks that make it questionable to learn. The biggest drawbacks are that it does not 'stick' on players as other performer songs do, so the second you stop casting, the party loses the buff. Another drawback is that it is very rare to have another performer to cast this song with so you may find yourself with a skill you never get to use
Arrow Vulcan.png Arrow Vulcan
Optional 10/10 This is a great leveling tool for when players are questing or having to level solo. For players relying 100% on parties, this spell is unneeded.
Marionette Control.png Marionette Control
This spell serves no other purpose other than for those planning on supporting a Brewer/Forger. Skip this spell if you have no plans to do this


For players planning on participating in WOE/PVP


Classical Pluck.png Classical Pluck
A very powerful skill that disables everyone within range. Mandatory for WOE players
Tarot Card of Fate.png Tarot Card of Fate
Awesome skill to cast while in song that has the chance of casting a random debuff on players and is not effected by player resists at all. If a Death card is chosen, the enemy player will instantly be 'Coma'ed to 1 hp and be easily killed in 1 shot.
Longing for Freedom.png Longing for Freedom
Completely optional skill to allow the Minstrel/Maestro to walk around while performing a song. It has its uses but is completely skippable

Pre-Severe Rainstorm leveling build Minstrel

  • STR: 1-20 (for holding potions, gear, and later on tears)
  • AGI: 1-50+ (or leave this low and build agi after job change to maestro)
  • VIT: 50-70
  • INT: 70-80
  • DEX: 70-80
  • LUK: 1

This build uses the same skill build as the support build with the addition of mandatory 5/5 Melody strike as pre-req for Severe Rainstorm. This build also has the option of starting the AGI stat for increased Severe Rainstorm damage or waiting till after Maestro job change to begin building this stat in order to get VIT INT and DEX up first

Equipment

Eden Group Equipments Quests

Most transcendent characters will have already completed some Eden Equipment quests already and can reuse the equipment. If the character has not done the quest yet, they can do it as a transcendent character as well. The Dagger or Bow are good weapons and generally a good choice for a Rogue and their future classes'.

Third Class Compatible Equipment

It is recommended to look at the Equipment recommendations for the Third Class job to see what equipment to strive for, rather than to spend a lot of money on a piece of equipment that will not be used in the future as a third class. However, some equipment may have a high level requirement, or are transcendent only.

These 2 combined add a 50% dmg buff to attacks. Easily the best bow choice for the Minstrel class, as well as the Maestro class.

Easily the best weapon for maestro due to the 10% buff on Melody Strike and Arrow Vulcan and ability to enchant with EA buff. This can also have 2 slots added to it with slotting adds, which allows the ability to card in Archer Skeleton cards for a severe damage buff.

Anything that boosts INT/DEX/Ranged damage will work fine. Or anything with damage reduction since players will be mostly supporting
