Overview

A Shadow Cross is the fourth job class of an Assassin/Assassin Cross/Guillotine Cross. To attack enemies, they still wield two separate weapons (from Daggers to One Handed Swords) or Katars, but they gain access to new abilities.

A Shadow Cross name is often shortened and abbreviated as "SX", where the "X" is like a cross.

Builds

PvM

Critical

This build focuses on single target critical hits (CRIT), and is not a leveling build because it does not have HIT for AoE skills. Critical hits deal about 40% more than regular attacks would, and would bypass enemy flee. This build relies a lot on LUK. Every three LUK gives one CRIT. When using katars, crit rate is doubled (not shown in stat window) so it is possible to achieve 100% crit rate with just 50 CRIT. It is advised to get a bit more, however, because the target's LUK will lower your effective crit rate. Effective crit rate using katars = 2xCRIT - (target's LUK/5).

This build is mainly used for single target DPS on MVPs, but can also be applied for PvP/WoE as well. This build is PURE critical, and is only applicable to endgame uses. Leveling builds require HIT to use AoE leveling skills and 1 DEX is not adequate for AoE purposes.

The player may opt to use this stats build for leveling using Rolling Cutter or Meteor Assault when having access to equipment that grants Hit like Phreeoni Wings or Skin of Ladon, or tweak the stats build to include DEX which should be a priority first.

Advantages:

  • Critical damage bypass flee.
  • Potentially very high single target damage.

Disadvantages:

  • Need a lot of critical rate to ensure the skill always crits and doesn't miss, since the build will lack hit or Perfect Hit, with the equipment being optimized for having critical damage bonus.
  • Mainly does damage to a single target only, since the AoE skill of a GX is lacking critical damage capabilities.
Cross Impact

Cross Impact build is mostly a PVM/MVP end-game but can be used for leveling, if geared properly. It depends heavily on Critical damage and rate, and Enchant Deadly Poison.

Advantages:

  • Melee damage is boosted by Dark Claw.
  • Despite Cross Impact being melee, it can act as a gap closer to enemy.

Disadvantages:

  • Dark Claw or some sort of melee reflect immunity method must be used first against enemy that use melee damage reflecting skill.

Soul Destroyer

Advantages:

  • Can kill enemy before they got into melee range.
  • Ranged build can be better in some situation like dealing with melee reflect enemy, or picking off enemy one by one.

Disadvantages:

  • Ranged skill wont be able to benefit from Dark Claw.
  • Soul Destroyer have a lot more restriction (casting time and cast delay) to be able to deal good sustained damage, compared to Cross Impact.
Requirements

This build is centered around Enchant Deadly Poison, crit damage, crit rate, casting time, and aftercast delay equipment.


Non-Critical

Advantages:

  • Good AoE damage.
  • Meteor Assault is not affected by Enchant Deadly Poison, so the player can be more economical.

Disadvantages:

  • Non-crit skill doesn't bypass flee, so gears that can give Hit or Perfect Hit bonus is usually required.
  • Lower single target damage.
  • Strictly melee damage.
  • Meteor Assault have some fixed and variable casting time, so gears to reduce it or make casting time uninterrupted is needed.
Meteor Assault

Meteor Assault build is both a leveling and PVM/MVP end-game if geared properly. It depends heavily on the Enforcer Shoes and the skills listed in the shoes.

Stats
  • STR: 120-125 (120-125 STR is preferred since it provides more ATK and directly affects the Meteor Assault formula)
  • AGI: 90+ OR 120 (AGI is required for achieving 193 ASPD, 120 for gear requirements)
  • VIT: 70-90 OR 120 (VIT is used to provide the Stun resistance from total 100 VIT (Base + Extra), or 120 for gear requirements)
  • INT: 1 OR 120 (120 for gear requirements)
  • DEX: 1 OR 90-100 (less DEX can be used when using Perfect Hit gears)
  • LUK: ~90 OR 125/126 (extra ATK or 125/126 for gear requirements)

Requirements

This build's stats are centered around the Middle-Lower headgear set and HIT/Perfect Hit boosting gears used.

= Fixed Cast Reduction =

Options:

  • Headgear: Any Headgear that provides at least 0.3 seconds Fixed Cast Time reduction will help remove the cast bar for Meteor Assault.
  • Minor/Fixed Casting Stone: Garment-enchant stones open the option to use HP/SP Leech or defensive headgears.
= Attack Boost =

Options:

  • Star Eyepatch & Orc Hero Card set: This set needs 120 VIT to get the optimal ATK boost (130 is possible, but not stats efficient). This set gives one of the lowest ATK boosts from the gears but provides high Hard Defense and HP, making a tanky build. Extra LUK helps boost the VIT values more.
  • Imperial Feather & Royal Guard Necklace set: This set needs 120 AGI to get the maximum ATK boost from the set. This set gives one of the lowest ATK boosts from the gears, but the flee from AGI stat helps reduce the potion costs while leveling, while also giving some status effect immunity. It is also rather easy to achieve 193 ASPD.
  • Seraphim Coronet: This build needs 120 INT to get the maximum ATK boost from the middle headgear. This setup gives the best Flat ATK boost from the gears. The extra SP helps to reduce the SP item consumption. This can be combined with Blood Sucker, Tengu Scroll, or Vassalage Necklace.
  • Little Garden & Vassalage Necklace: This build needs 125 STR/LUK to get the maximum ATK boost from the headgears. This setup gives lowest Flat ATK boost for Guillotine Cross, out of all the available options but is the best option for Crit based skills and other Gears.
= HIT/Perfect Hit =

Options:

  • Phreeoni Wings garment is overall the best in slot for PVM/MVP since it provides high HIT and can be used to make 1 DEX builds. It has a set with Phreeoni Card which gives additional HIT and Perfect Hit.
  • Another good option for garment is the Striking Mikoshi with Striking Hat, which provides about 75 Perfect Hit.
  • Verus Core are good options for increasing Perfect Hit.

The Meteor Assault can be used since Assassin Cross with Phen Card to level with Crimson Weapons. On reaching level 100, the Poison React, Weapon Crush, Weapon Blocking, and Counter Slash skills will help boost the damage and insta-casting of Meteor Assault. Other gears that boost HP/SP Leech, Damage/ATK, or Defense can be used for leveling and PVM/MVP, depending upon each owner's preference.

Rolling Cutter/Cross Ripper Slasher Katars

Rolling Cutter is the most effective leveling AOE skill for a Guillotine Cross. This build is a good balanced build that can use skills, CRIT, perfect dodge, or anything depending on gears used.

  • DEX: ~60 OR 90-100 OR 120
  • LUK: ~60 OR 72/90/108/126 OR 120

This build's stats are centered around the Heroic Backpack [1] garment, which is overall the best garment for PVM/MVP and sometimes PVP/WoE too. Make sure STR, AGI, and VIT are above 90 as these are crucial stats for a GX (STR = attack power, AGI = ASPD/flee, VIT = survivability) and the backpack bonuses are great for it. If you prefer to use skills more than CRIT, go for 90 DEX and 60-70 LUK. If you prefer to CRIT more and want the backpack LUK bonus, then go for 90 LUK and 60-70 DEX. VIT is set to 94 so that there is 100 VIT in total after job bonuses, which will give stun immunity. 120 DEX when combined with ranged gear is also a viable option for long-ranged MVP-ing with Cross Ripper Slasher against some MVP that have melee attack reflect.

With the adddition of Perverse Demon Mask, the player may choose to put more points into LUK in order to gain defense bypassing effect from it. Since the bonuses is every 18 points of LUK, the player may choose to put either 72, 90, 108, or 126 in LUK, based on how much the player value defense bypass effect. If the player already have defense bypass effect from other gears, LUK amount may be reduced and invested into another stats. When using Seraphim Coronet, stats point may be invested into INT stats instead to gain bonus damage from it.

Rolling Cutter is the first skill to get and will be the main leveling skill. Cross Ripper Slasher is very strong with many counters built up with Rolling Cutter. For leveling purposes, CRS can be used to finish off the one monster that is not killed when mobbing. Cross Impact is good for single target burst damage as well. Cloaking Exceed is useful and you will not be seen by insect/demon monsters. This build can also be used to level using Meteor Assault if the player is equipped with Enforcer Shoes. The only mandatory equipment for this route of leveling is cards or gear that prevents cast interruption. Using this skill while dual-wielding, when carded correctly will usually yield better damage than using a katar.

This build will have a good CRIT rate with certain gears like Rogue's Treasures. Morrigane's set is also good choice for the early GX levels or Assassin/Assassin Cross levels. Please note that CRIT-ing monsters one at a time is not recommended for leveling purposes and using Rolling Cutter to mob is much faster. CRIT could be useful for MVP/WoE purposes though. MVPs that have AGI-UP usually will dodge skills that depend on HIT, so this is where CRIT comes in. Buffs like Gloria will bring the CRIT rate up over 50 usually, which means over 100 CRIT with the doubled CRIT rate from Katars.

High Perfect Dodge (80+) can be easily achieved with the right gears, like Morrigane's set, two Fortune Swords, and Wild Rose Card. LUK will also help but do not get too much LUK at the beginning as the points are better spent on other stats first. If tanking a mob for your party to kill, switch from the two Fortune Swords to one Fortune Sword and a shield with the appropriate racial reduction card (Thara Frog Card, Khalitzburg Card, etc.). Switch back to two Fortune Swords to pull and mob the monsters together.

A Specialty Jur [4] with four Hunter Fly Cards, Jur [3] with three Hunter Fly Cards, or Crimson Katar [2] with two Hunter Fly Cards is useful with Rolling Cutter for leeching HP back. The player can stack this with other leech gear to increase the chance of leeching HP/SP. At level 120, the player can switch to Thanatos Katar [1] for better damage and built-in HP/SP leech. For DPS purposes, use a Durga [1], KVM Katar (Glorious Bloody Roar/Glorious Jamadhar), or Crimson Katar [2]. KVM Katars are good for attacking even non-Demi Human monsters due to the 193 ASPD proc.


PvP

PVP/WoE Daggers

This is more of an endgame PVP/WoE build and is not a leveling build. To optimize ASPD, HIT, and ATK, focus on balancing the STR, AGI and DEX stats. This is because it is indispensable to have quick attack speed along with adequate HIT so that attacks will not fail. VIT is also needed for survivability.

Dual-Dagger (DD) Critical Hit-Locker

This build focuses on dealing critical hits on a single target (CRIT) using two daggers. This build is mainly used for single target MVPing/PvM as it relies on auto-attacking (Ctrl+Click, or /nc). The main goals are: 1) Reach 193 ASPD (through AGI, gears, ASPD-modifying consumables, and buffs (such as Cantocandidus)]; 2) Make your CRIT greater than 100 [from stats, gears, CRIT-modifying consumables, and buffs (such as Gloria)]; and 3) Deal enormous damage (through STR, overupgraded weapons, cards, etc.)

Your stats should look more or less like this once you reach Base Lv. 150:

  • STR: 70~
  • AGI: 110-120
  • VIT: 70-94
  • INT: 1
  • DEX: 1-50 (offhand might show as a "CRIT", but it's still based off of hit for some obscure reason)
  • LUK: 90-120 OR 126

And at Base Lv. 175, your stats should look more or less like this:

  • STR: 80-100
  • AGI: 110-120
  • VIT: 70-94
  • INT: 1
  • DEX: 40-80
  • LUK: 90-120 OR 126

For most of the time, your main weapons are not katars (dual daggers, DUH!). Instead, you will be spamming Enchant Deadly Poison and auto-attacking lone targets most of the time. Make sure to max both Righthand Mastery and Lefthand Mastery. But then, you will be forced to switch to katars when facing groups of monsters. Thus, it is recommended to level up with maximum STR, AGI/VIT, and DEX (refer to the Rolling Cutter/Cross Ripper Slasher Katar Build above), and reset your stats to a DD-CRIT build once you either reach Base Lv. 185 or when you have gathered decent gears for a DD-crit build. But if you have gears that are optimized for Perfect Dodge, then you might as well act as a "Perfect-Dodge Tanker" in leveling-oriented parties and continue allocating your stat points as described above.
